LANCASTER WINS FIRST MOTO AT NATIONALS - ALL WA PODIUM25/Oct/2008 - By, Trevor HedgePort Hedland dynamo Ryan Lancaster has dominated the opening race of the 2008 Australian Quad Championship at the north-west coastal town of Smithton in Tasmania.Current Australian Champion Anthony Yewers had put in a big effort to prepare and help support the WA campaign at this year’s nationals but his opening effort at defending his title came to no avail after stalling his machine. The Strawberry farmer then flooded his Honda while trying to re-start as his kill switch had activated. He finally managed to get going again but as he failed to finish 75 percent of the race distance took no points from the opening bout.Fellow Honda man Chris Brenton crossed the line 10.71 seconds behind arch Yamaha nemesis Lancaster. Suzuki man Chad McKay rounded out the race one podium to make it an all WA top three. Jy Stokes took fourth place ahead of Taylor Milling and fresh graduate to the Senior ranks Luke Gaisford. Victorian young gun Mitchell Van Vliet was next home ahead of local star Alan Linger. The high profile dominators on the east coast this year have been the Polaris team of Luke Beechey and Aaron Ovens. Neither rider finished on the same lap as the top nine and thus must have experienced some difficulties that we are yet to ascertain but will report on later.
