SLIP SLIDIN' AWAY IN SA AT CBS bins QUAD SPEEDWAY CHALLENGEBy, Craig Wasley - 15/Feb/2008Quadriders SA hosted the CBS Bins Quad Speedway Challenge at the Gillman Speedway in South Australia last weekend. The event drew one of the largest entries of ATV riders yet seen in SA. Further proof of the growing nature of ATV sport.Quadriders SA stage a race series throughout the regular speedway season, running their races off the back of scheduled solo or sidecar speedway meetings but last weekend marked their first standalone speedway event. “This year we decided to have a meeting all of our own” said Mark Baker from the club. “We were able to run more classes to give more riders a lot more track time. “Running as a support class to the regular meeting has been a great spectacle for the fans but now they can come and see that great racing action all night long. “We had a huge rider list and even had riders come from interstate to compete against some of SA’s best riders. “The club is now considering running this event a couple of times through the season, as it was just so much fun for both experts and novice riders and all in between” explained Mark. The club runs four speedway events through the season that award points towards overall class trophies. This event didn’t count as points towards their club series but that didn’t stop the riders from letting it all hang out. A full programme got underway around 7pm and the action came thick and fast till after 10pm. 35 official races were run on the night and slotted in between these events were 18 junior demo races run on the infield junior track. Four rounds earned each rider points in an attempt to be one of four riders to make the A final. The last event on the night was the Div1 A grade final. #12 Darrel “Bullet” Knight had a clean sweep in the heats and was considered the favourite for the final. A bad start from the Bullet had him battling from behind and had to pull out all of his tricks to finally pass the leaders to take the main event. The club would like to that all the sponsors and officials for the night in helping to make the first event such a great meeting. Overall 53 competitors took part with 300 spectators on hand to enjoy the action. Main Results for the night A grade final 1st # 12 Darrell Knight (BULLET) S.A. Honda TRX 450R 2nd # 54 Ben Hall VIC.
