SMITH SAYS GOODBYE TO MX TO CONCENTRATE ON ENDURO5/Nov/2008Team Can-Am’s Paul Smith made the trip down to Nth West Tasmania for the Australian ATV Nationals held on the weekend of the 25th-26th of Oct.The Circular Heads MX Club put a lot of work into the old school natural terrain 1.6km track leading up to the event and it paid off with a lot of positive feed back from the riders and crew. Unfortunately Smith must have run over a Tassie Devil or something on his way to the Smithton track because he was plagued with bad luck from the onset of race one. “We couldn’t have had a worse run they were only little problems like a loose battery terminal DNFed us in race one and stupid thing’s like that all weekend”. Smith only had one trouble free run all weekend when he had an epic battle with defending title holder Ant Yewers in race two. They battled each other all race swapping alloy and positions all race, including twice on the last lap, with Smith getting the better of him but only just. At the conclusion of the weekend it was a West Australian trifecta of Ryan Lancaster taking his first OZ #1 plate Chris Brenton in 2nd and Chad MacKay in 3rd. “Congrats to the W.A boys even if I had a good run I don’t think that I had the pace to run with them they deserve everything they get, well done.” Smith said after the last moto. The Finke Desert Race winner also announced his retirement from full time Motocross “This was always going to be my last season of MX, with more and more Off Road events accepting quads now I have to choose one or the other and my passion for Off Road racing much outweighs MX by a long way. I don’t want to do both half assed so I’ll put all my efforts into the Off Road stuff.
